Hot Chip are back with a first glimpse of their fourth (fourth!) album, One Life Stand. Recorded at Lanark Studios in London, and released via Parlophone on Feb 8th next year, ‘Take It In’ starts as a modern day dancefloor blueprint, all bleepy trappings and doom electro-bass before rapidly opening into a shining chorus of classic pop proportions.
Nineties piano chords and those melancholic harmonies Hot Chip have so perfected creep in and over the dark stuff as the track advances, disappearing behind the clouds with a last flourish of keys. It’s excellent it“s clever, subtle, bright and as an indication of what to expect for next year, entirely promising of great things.

You can pre-order the album, book tickets for their February UK tour, and buy a lock of Alexis’ hair (probably) from the Hot Chip website

p.s. For new readers (or in case you missed it first time round) a repost of the most downloaded track on abeano.com ever: Hot Chip & Peter Gabriel’s cover of Vampire Weekend’s ‘Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa’.
Recorded at Gabriel’s Real World studios in Box, Wiltshire this summer, it was originally slated as a b-side for the ‘Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa’ single but never made the final cut. Save for an appearance on the XL 08/09 sampler this is pretty much an exclusive.
How does PG handle the “It feels so unnatural Peter Gabriel 2″ line?
