Whilst we were filling up on Vitamin D on Primrose Hill this weekend, Hot Chip were sweating synths down in the BBC Live Lounge. Luckily we’d lugged a Boombox along.
One Life Stand was an album which saw the band kick-start a journey out of their gawky, sexless shells into sophisticated, dance-pop gents. Never though did we think Alexis Taylor – a guy who looks as though sitting next to his cousin at Sunday lunch is the closest thing he’s had to a date – could do sultry, heavy breathing and wolf “a-wooo!†yowls. Joined by Scritti Politti’s Green Gartside, their cover of Shakira’s ‘She Wolf’ prowls the highest Live Lounge ranks alongside Arctic Monkey’s ‘Love Machine’.
On their last Lounge trip Hot Chip covered Wiley, who subsequently joined them at Glastonbury for a duet of ‘Wearing My Rolex’. Hot Chip and Shakira howling and hip-shaking onstage together? Go on Eavis, you know it makes sense.
