The last time I heard Scotland based artist Rudi Zygadlo, he was releasing his debut LP on Planet Mu, ‘Great Western Laymen’. A strange, fantastically varied album, its amalgamation of pop and dubstep (reworked with influences from Eastern Europe’s classical canon) was obtuse, imaginative and a lot of fun.
But, although it was obvious he doesn’t like the simple things in life, I didn’t expect him to take inspiration from sea shanties on his follow up. Part of a one off release due on Pictures Music in September ‘Variously Made Men’ is a constantly contorting dance pop track and demonstrates that Zygadlo’s over active imagination hasn’t slowed down one bit.
