Whilst Vampire Weekend are out of the public eye, Rostam Batmanglij has been making some music on his own. Posted on his Tumblr earlier today, ‘Wood’ is the first non-VW track we’ve heard from him since 2009′s Discovery album (Converse hook-up with Kid Cudi and Best Coast aside) and it’s as elegant and composed as you might expect. Featuring a super long intro (Rostam’s first vocal only emerges at the 1:25 mark), it could easily have bridged the gap between Vampire Weekend and Contra with its classical serenity and Eastern rhythms and motifs. In a post on his blog a couple of weeks ago, he wrote “more music from Rostam coming soon” – whether he meant only this or a whole record’s worth, we’ll just have to wait and see.
