Outfit – Introducing Liverpool’s most exciting new band

Posted on by admin Artist:

When we first heard Outfit and their misty, overcast art-rock we immediately whacked their name into the nearest search engine and waited for the results to appear. Several searches later and still the internet had given us nothing to click through to, so we hunted down their email and asked them some questions to get to know them a bit better.

Who are Outfit and where did you meet?

There are five of us. Two of us are brothers and so meeting was kind of unavoidable. Our drummer is also a producer and we naturally gravitated towards him through making music collaboratively. Two of us used to dress up as aliens and run around a space museum in a small industrial town four days a week. Who we are is the question we ask all the time.

Why the limited online presence? A deliberate attempt at mystery or just a reaction to the accepted form of social media?

We like visual art and resent bands just telling people what they sound like. We wanted to use our aesthetic interests and points of reference as a way of directing people towards a mood, using as little information as possible. It leaves people the space to have their own imaginative involvement with it.

Would you align yourselves with the enigmatic presentation of bands (e.g Wu Lyf and Christian AIDS) in the North West?

It would be an oxymoron to define ourselves as ‘enigmatic’. We admire bands who use the internet as an interesting medium to augment their music. We’re aware that our internet presence will evolve as time goes by, but certainly as a new band we want to approach the WWW with restraint.

Who are you dressing up as in Every Night I Dress Up As You? Who are Outfit’s favourite people to dress up as?

That song (we think) is about dressing up as all the different personalities that run through you at various points in your life. Our favourite people to dress up as are the people that we imagine ourselves to be.

You remind us of early Franz Ferdinand and Roxy Music but who or what do you take inspiration from?

*When and where can we see you live?*

We’re looking to put on our own stuff in venues where we know we’ll have full control of the building’s aesthetic, so we can integrate our visuals and play when we want. We think it’s important to create more than just a gig. Liverpool and London are the places we’ll be seen most.
