Krissy Peers AKA Melé is significant for a number of reasons. Via mixes the relatively young DJ/ producer done both live and recorded, a hefty knowledge of music past and present, obscure and common, is apparent. Perhaps it’s that knowledge that inspired the artwork for this EP, which is based on Big Tymers’ How You Luv That tape, harking back to an era when the word mixtape meant exactly that, a reel of tape with a damn mix on it, but I digress. His significance also glares through his talents as a beat maker, and especially beats that are expected to tear through soundsystems and spill vodka lemonades in clubs around the UK. The Vanelé tape is a nine track selection of those tunes, with everything from the reservedly space-age Asteroids to the visceral revisited grime sound of Who Ya Talkin 2 (feat. Slick Don) and of course the jovial yet oddly still screwface-inducing pump of tracks like Gold Casio, which you can stream below. Vanelé is a meaty nine tracks, with each one bringing something slightly different to the table, and is a great portfolio for the varied talents of this up and coming donk-loving Scouser. Download the tape right now, it’s your duty as a listener.
