Numbers Release Alert! The next new disc from Glasgow’s consistently on it label will come from London based duo Kodiak. One of them is rumoured to work the counter at one of London’s most famous record shops (Sean… is that you?) but otherwise the label admit that details are “thin on the ground”. The song however is definitely FULL ON. ‘Spreo Superbus’ is 6 minutes packed with big crescendos, skittering effects and heavy warped bass lines. Actress & Girl Unit feature on the remixes and it’s out March 5th. Wiggle to it below until the vinyl lands.

No Ceremony – Heartbreaker

If you’ve an aversion to baby dolls, look away now. Manchester’s willfully obscure No Ceremony have made them the focus of their new video, decking them out in flashing neon lights and, in turn, creating the weirdest, stillest rave scenes committed to film. The song itself, ‘Heartbreaker, isn’t quite as odd, favouring big, four to the floor stabs over anything too out of the ordinary, whilst one of their mystery troupe lays down almost serene coos to give the whole thing an angelically euphoric sheen. No Ceremony play their debut show with Alt-J, Money and more at Spinningfields, Manchester on Friday 18th May.

Yesterday I read this laugh out loud story about Claire Boucher’s attempted trip down the Mississippi river. In 2009, along with friend William Gratz, they prepared a houseboat with live chickens, a sewing machine and 20 pounds of potatoes to make it all the way from Montreal to a town in Minnesota in the US. Read the full story here to see if they made it or not. But that’s not all Grimes has been up to. To coincide with the release of her album in the US and Canada she took over one of the worlds’ favourite blogs Gorilla Vs Bear for a whole day to share music by Paula, Kool Music, Phedre and more. Matt Cutler played things a little softer on the Echolocations EP (also on R&S) but this is a heady, heavy delight. Wait until it gets 1 min 53 in, it goes berserk! Crystal Caverns 1991 will form part of Galaxy Gardens, Lone’s forthcoming LP.

Remember this mix Jacques Greene did for Mary Anne Hobbs’ XFM show back in October? If you were paying attention, you might recall hearing a strange, levitating piece of music in amongst the the more standard beats. The work of producer Arclight, ‘Vitamin D’ is to be the next release on Jacques Greene’s Vase label and sounds just as compelling on it’s own. Wispy and otherworldly, its swathes of soft sounds and hushed, mantric vocals are nothing short of hypnotic, making the track’s three minutes 13 feel more like 30 seconds.

‘Vitamin D’ is released on April 2nd via Vase.

Odd Future are up to their old tricks in the new suburb set video for OF Tape Vol.2 track ‘Rella’. Laser dicks shoot objects into cats, Tyler turns powder snorting centaur and (less shockingly) they transform a redheadd kid cry. THOSE GUYS! Tyler, who directed the video, tweeted “Hopefully This Gets Me Closer To Being Metioned With Spike Jonze One Day And Hype And Not These Other Rappers I Hate That Shit”. TBH, I’m not 100% sure what he’s going on about.

The Men – Ex Dreams (+ London Show)

The Men finish their European tour on the 23rd of this month with a show at London’s CAMP BASEMENT. Anyone who caught them last time at White Heat or the completely manic Shacklewell Arms will know that it’s worth a trip down to hear tracks like Bataille, and THIS ONE from the new album, ‘Ex Dreams’. Love it when the vocals come in, Sonic Youth style and the commentor who says they are ‘bringing back the real’. No idea what she is banging on about but it sounds cool.

Why should I listen when you stand up and speak?” So starts the third Hotflush album from Paul Rose aka producer and DJ Scuba. What follows on ‘Personality’ is definitely some of his strongest work so far, from the soulful ‘I got unders’ of ‘Ignition Key’ and mantra like single ‘The Hope’ to slinky disco of ‘July’ and heavy, bassy ‘Gekko’. There’s something for everyone and, if he doesn’t say anything else that’s a bit sexist, this should be Scuba’s biggest year.
