Following on from his single ‘Protector SE5’ on Mixpak, along with recent work with fellow London-based Chilean rapper Blaze Kidd, Palmistry shares with us his hallmark range on Ascensión. Neon, Fruit Ninja-like slashes dice up watermelon emojis with each note on the euphoric ‘Steal a x ft Jazzy Grez’, whereas ‘Pree’ is far darker and more intimate. The words “I was dying/No-one helped me,” barely make it out over soft chords that wash over the brutal edges carved out by the table in the artwork. Sobs and laughter appear at the start and near the close respectively, but the two samples become more indiscernible with every repeat. Simply put: this release is genius. Listen below.
