Dominant Legs
Posted by Alison on 04 November 2009‘Dominant Legs’ is the explorative-pop project of San Franciscan Ryan William Lynch, making the kind of introspective, bleary-eyed songs that knock even the most cynical, for six. His inquisitive melodies are stranded somewhere between the bold strokes of cheery synth pop and the abstractly liberating; like the playful experimentalism of Arthur Russell with flecks of Ariel Pink’s dreamy atmospherics. Songs like ‘Young at Love and Life’ work like the awkward ramblings of a first date, jittering along with scratchy guitars and layered with Lynch’s self-conscious vocals. Wrapped in the shadowy backing vocals of Helen Hunt it’s the sense of sincerity and tenderness that really makes these tracks stick.
