Disappearers

Art school seems to lend itself to meetings of minds and media – people that have read too much Nietzsche and own a bass guitar, girls with Holgas and half-cut poetry in moleskins, screen-printing vinyl collectors in furs.
I don’t know if Disappearers met at art school, but their music weighs heavy with this aesthetic. Their one track – Everything Straight Lies – is caught between gabbled clichés and winsomely simple arrangements. Boy-girl refrains marry up for choruses about fear and love in long grass. A sliding bassline pins down heady sentiment and dry four-four drumming brackets the whole thing in indie.
Their blog won’t tell you anything about them that you can’t learn from listening to this one track – obsessions with old photographs, transcribed verse, film stills. It’s all here.
